Acting for an Azerbaijan-based drilling services company as both claimant and defendant in ongoing multiple arbitrations arising out of projects in Bangladesh, in the LCIA, ICC and the SIAC, the latter valued at more than US$51m. These claims epitomise the calibre and global reach of the international arbitrations we are working on. Our client is based in Dubai, claiming against the Bangladesh state oil company under a contract for work in Bangladesh that is governed by English law. The arbitration is seated in Paris (and subject to the French Civil Code) and is governed by UNCITRAL, while administered by the SIAC. A range of issues typical to international arbitrations have been live before different the different tribunals: jurisdiction, consolidation, appropriate privilege protocols, late challenges to arbitrators, and early determination applications successfully defended (with Euan Palmer acting as counsel).
