Our Disputes team continues its expansion

After another successful year, we have further expanded our growing Disputes practice welcoming marine and international trade specialist, Russell Strong, from leading international dispute resolution firm, Zaiwalla & Co. This follows recent previous lateral partner hires and internal partner promotions alongside junior recruitment.

Russell Strong joins as a partner in the Disputes team. He has more than 14 years’ experience acting for commercial and individual clients across a broad range of contentious issues. Russell specialises in commercial litigation and international arbitration. He is regularly instructed to act in high-value, multi-jurisdictional claims, including contract disputes, shareholder petitions, and issues arising out of the international carriage of goods.

Russell has a broad commercial practice, with a particular focus on commodities and dry shipping disputes.  He becomes Head of Marine and International, based in London, in a move that complements the team’s existing international litigation practice and firmwide international network.

Russell is consistently rated by Legal 500 and has been described as tenacious and analytical as well as receiving other excellent client feedback including:

“Russell Strong is extremely hard working and puts the client’s needs first.”

“I would highly recommend Russell Strong. He has a broad commercial practice, involving international disputes. He is a strong litigator and tactician. He looks at the end goal which his client wishes to achieve and then works out how best to achieve that goal. A real fighter and a good negotiator, who has a good grasp of both law and procedure. He is also very user-friendly.”

Head of Disputes, Huw Wallis said: “Despite challenges caused by the pandemic, we have continued to grow as a team. Growth is a key strategic priority for us and having met Russell, I was delighted to offer him a partner role. Russell’s focus on marine law and international trade augments and complements the wide range of specialisms our team has to offer and also supports our growing international reach. He is also extremely well-connected; a key asset for any modern lawyer.”
