“Having joined Greenwoods as a trainee myself, and now as an owner of our firm, I am proud to say that Greenwoods really does view our trainee solicitors as the future of our business.
We invest significant time in recruiting the right people and in carefully choosing experienced lawyers within each department to supervise you every step of the way.
One of the most rewarding things about being Training Principal is seeing our trainees’ careers develop within the firm and helping to guide them as they qualify into their chosen practice area and become the next generation of commercially astute and technically gifted lawyers.”
John Macaulay, Training Principal

“My supervisor and the team made me feel welcomed and I was able to fit in immediately. Their support and guidance were encouraging – I was trusted with hands on experience and responsibility with actual fee-earning work. I am currently based in the London office but I work seamlessly with partners and other fee-earners across the Cambridge and Peterborough offices.”
“My Wealth Preservation seat taught me a multitude of skills. I grew in confidence and learned how to guide clients through what can sometimes be a complex and distressing process. With careful guidance and support from the team, I discovered various effective ways of helping clients reduce the emotional stress associated with estate planning and administration. My supervisor was extremely supportive and always encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone. I had day-to-day contact with clients and my workload included preparing bespoke wills and lasting powers of attorney, dealing with estate administration and obtaining the grant of probate, and assisting with Court of Protection applications.”
“My time in Real Estate has flown by so far! I have learnt a lot and thoroughly enjoyed working with the team. In terms of work highlights, I: Completed my first property transaction, lead my first client meeting, helped draft transfers, contracts and leases. For training, I attended some interesting webinars on SDLT, e-signatures for Land Registry deeds and introductions to agriculture law. I also participated in virtual networking events with Peterborough and Cambridgeshire Young Lawyers Divisions and joined our social and charity committees.”
“I joined the Employment team for my final seat in March2020. Shortly afterwards, the Job Retention Scheme was created which involved furloughing employees. This was a completely new Employment law concept, the detail of which changed daily and sometimes hourly! I spent lots of time analysing the ever-changing guidance to help provide urgent advice to clients. Being immersed in this process was extremely hard work, but it was fantastic to be in a team where everyone pooled their knowledge to try to understand furloughing and how it might work in order to provide practical and timely advice for our clients.”
“My time in Disputes has been very rewarding. I have been assisting the team with complex litigation and have been able to make real contributions to progressing matters. I have drafted various documents such as witness statements, advice notes, and agreements, as well as attending court (both in person and virtually).”
“I am enjoying the fast-paced work, and the balance between getting involved in corporate work, and commercial work. I have been involved in a myriad of different transactions, such as: share purchase deals, refinancing deals, and de-mergers – all of which comprise of a lot of documents to get the deals over the line. I enjoy the project management aspect of the deals, and ensuring that everyone is communicating with one another. I have drafted various commercial terms and conditions for businesses. I enjoy the aspect of thinking out of the box, and trying to think ‘ahead into the future’ to protect the client, by incorporating robust terms. The team are always supportive and available to answer any questions I have.”
