In March, our Lauren Walker considered the dispute reported in the media between Priscilla Presley and Riley Keough over the validity of Lisa Marie’s Will. Click here to read her article.
Yesterday it was announced that a settlement has now been reached. It is unlikely that we will find out what the terms of the settlement are as it is reported that a motion (an application to the court) has been filed to seal the details but lawyers for Priscilla and Riley confirm that both parties are happy with the outcome and family harmony has been restored.
There has been a significant upward trend in recent years in the level of disputes arising from Wills and estates, some of which may be fuelled by seeing an increasing number of high-profile cases, such as the Presley estate, in the press.
Whilst the majority of disputes settle out of court, probate claims can be complex as there are various factors and interests that need to be taken into account in agreeing a settlement. This includes the testator’s wishes and how any settlement would affect each of the beneficiaries of the estate.
At Greenwoods, we are lucky to benefit from the expertise of Michael Kilbane, who joined the firm in March 2023 and is a specialist in this area.
