Penny (high) speeding up our data privacy practice

We are delighted to announce the addition of Penny Bygrave to our Corporate & Commercial team.  With extensive experience in data protection and commercial law, Penny brings valuable expertise, which clients will certainly benefit from.

Penny’s decision to join Greenwoods was driven by her passion for creative problem-solving and delivering practical outcomes. “I am not a ‘production line’ lawyer – I am outcome focussed and like to think outside the box. So, Greenwoods’ ‘not an identikit law firm’ approach attracted me immediately.”

With an impressive 15 years of industry experience, including a decade as a data protection specialist, Penny’s areas of expertise include advising on GDPR compliance, drafting privacy notices, developing internal policies and procedures, negotiating data sharing and processing agreements both in the UK and internationally, data protection impact assessments and legitimate interest assessments;  data breach reporting and handling complaints from the Information Commissioner’s Office; and responding to subject access and other data subject rights. “I practice the dark arts of commercial law – meaning that I can turn my hand to pretty much everything! I am also a specialist Tech lawyer – advising on IT outsourcing, e-commerce and online trading compliance with consumer rights, and data protection/IP issues arising from the use of AI software.”

One of Penny’s key aspirations upon joining Greenwoods is to foster a deep understanding of the importance of data privacy. “I am eager to promote good data hygiene and provide comprehensive guidance to our clients, it’s easy to get data privacy wrong, and the penalties can be eyewatering.”

Penny also supports Data Protection Officers, including staff and senior management training.  (Watch this space for team/sector focussed services but get in touch now if you’d like the inside track*.)

Stephen Jarvis, Head of Corporate & Commercial, is thrilled to welcome Penny to the team. “With her extensive understanding of data protection laws and versatile expertise in commercial law, Penny brings immense value to our firm. Penny’s presence further solidifies our position as a leading provider of innovative legal solutions.
