Can my invention be protected? That’s a crucial question, but certainly not the only one, affecting your invention’s earning potential. In the intricate world of patent law, having a strategist who understands the technical and legal aspects and how they fit your commercial plans, is invaluable. Martin ensures that your innovations are shielded with the same precision they were engineered from the outset.
Martin, a mechanical engineer turned chartered patent agent, offers a distinctive combination of technical proficiency and legal acumen. His approach is deeply rooted in a profound comprehension of the inventive process and the complexities of patent law, guiding every aspect of his work – from crafting robust patent applications to navigating intricate infringement issues.
With a practice that spans patent and designs law, Martin is your trusted expert for safeguarding intellectual property across a broad spectrum of industries. He’s adept at advising multinational corporations, guiding SMEs, and assisting individual inventors in navigating the IP landscape.
Martin has experience in the fields of packaging, building accessories, oilfield equipment and the defence industry. But don’t let that fool you – his expertise spans wider mechanical engineering fields. With full UK and European Patent Attorney qualifications, he’s your passport to protection across borders.
Before joining Greenwoods, Martin honed his skills as a partner at a boutique patent and trade mark firm in London. However, valuable early lessons came from his four-year stint as an examiner at the UK Patent Office. There, he gained insider knowledge of official procedures and preferences, giving him a unique edge in navigating the patent landscape.
Martin has also shared his wisdom as part of the faculty for the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA) Patent Administrators’ Course. He’s also served as an examiner for the UK patent attorney professional exams and has had a hand in the Copyright and Designs, Patent Drafting, and Validity and Infringement papers.
Martin holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College London and a Diploma in Intellectual Property Litigation from Birkbeck College London. He’s registered to represent clients at the European Patent Office and the UK Intellectual Property Office and is a Representative before the Unified Patent Court.
Occasionally, Martin channels his expertise into philanthropy, volunteering for the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorney’s Pro Bono “Patent Clinics” Scheme. He is fluent in ‘patent-ese’ and excels at translating intricate technical jargon into plain English, making complex concepts easily understandable.
